Prizes schmizes

Another piece in The Guardian today, this time about The Booker Prize.

Thought provoking as usual and as usual I agree with you. So many (much better) books never get a mention in my opinion but that's what it's all about I guess personal opinions.... and book sales.

Edward, once again I can see you've gotten those Guardian folks stirred up. It's great to see readers discussing writers and prizes.

I'd guess that for some writers the first great prize comes when a book actually gets published. When I am wandering around the local giant Barnes & Noble store (B&N put our local small bookshops out of business by undercutting their prices (not prizes) ... and later on returned those prices to full strength) I am always a bit depressed by the remainder piles of books. Thinking of the authors' dreams.

Anyhow...this giant B&N is itself now a victim of on-line book buying, and is to close at the end of the year. Its five stories (levels) of space are to taken over by a discount clothing store.

Evolution, devolution. All I am saying is let's all keep reading and writing!
